For my personal needs and views, I have no desire to have other sites read my personal files.I prefer to keep my privacy and look at those “other” websites on my own. These are the newest features that are being promoted to make their software stand out.
I am reading forums for other programs, and users have lots of bugs and issues all the time,especially with sync features or websites that view your files and give hints. I have a dedicated computer with Windows 7 and am enjoying the many rich features of the program. I am very pleased with TMG v 9.05, the final installer and am continuing to use it today. Unfortunately it is no longer being supported (except for the mail list and forums), but it’s still the best genealogy software available so I’m sticking with it. I followed the mail list and the user tutorials and tips sites for months just reading about how others handled various topics, just seeing how they worked and deciding on how I wanted to proceed before I jumped into it. Because the program is so flexible, there is a learning curve. There is also a wonderful mail list with helpful users who can help with any problems or suggestions. It has great charts and reports, all of which can be modified to give you what you want. TMG offers tremendous flexibility and endless options to let you set it up and work the way you want to work, not the way some else decided it needed to be done. I don’t see why I wouldn’t continue using it for the rest of my life, as although future operating systems may not work with it, it’s certainly possible to keep an old operating system on a dedicated machine. The user base is fabulous–while TMG is no longer in production or supported by the developer, the TMG list and forum are absolutely top-notch. I found it easy to learn (although making full use of its capacity does involve a steeper learning curve) and it has continued to satisfy me in almost every respect apart from lack of unicode.
